Legal implications: Laws relating to developing accessible websites

If you are developing a website for use by NSW DET or the general public, you are bound by Commonwealth and State legislation and NSW DET policies concerning the accessibility of your site for students and staff with a disability.

All students and staff, including those with a disability, must be able to access all the services and facilities provided by NSW DET. The only exception to this is where unjustifiable hardship considerations can be applied. These may include the cost and the effect on other students and staff. All relevant circumstances of the particular situation need to be taken into account when deciding if unjustifiable hardship applies.
